====== Session 31 ======

The party reach an uneasy truce with their new friends, and retire to their camp. They talk about the other group's plans in the area, and discover they're headed to an old dwarvern outpost called Dahl Moldur, having completed their patrol of the surrounding mountains. They explained that they'd come from an Elven outpost about 120 miles away, and were hoping to find an active portal at the outpost, though weren't sure as it hadn't been heard from in a long time. After this explanation, Igasi sets up another Tiny Hut for the group to sleep in, and the group turned in for the evening.

Over the course of the night Kana and Ahme stand watch together and trade jibes over who should be more scared of whom. Kathra and Hissua compare notes and stories about their respective deities and Hissua explains more of the different races, before Wei pulls her aside to talk about the portal network. Hissua recommends that he talk to Suon instead, who is staying awake the whole night to watch over the Yugs. Wei shows her his map of the interior network, and discovers that unlike the tightly interlinked map he's found, outside of the barrier the networks seemed based on regional hubs, with the hubs interlinked and more local pathways heading out from the hubs. They posit that the portal in Dahl Moldur may be able to connect to Otgon Sum, as they are reasonably close to each other compared to other points on the network.

The following day the groups head to Dahl Moldur, but as they approach see that the building seems somehow corrupted, with an acidic stream running from the main entrance and pustules and veins across the outside of the buildings. Rather than heading straight in the group splits and investigates some side buildings. The Butterflies approach what turns out to be a row of houses, whilst the other group head towards two storage buildings on the other side of the main complex. As they crack the first door a sudden skittering bursts from inside the building, and large bugs with green sacs on their bodies pour from the building, just as Hobson sounds the alarm on the other side of the complex. The group fight off the bugs, with Suna landing a Fireball that manages to kill six in a single hit, but does ignite the wooden upper stories of the building. Before calm can fall, some of the pustules on the buildings burst to reveal slug-like creatures with gapings maws and human-like arms, that charge towards them, breathing a deathly cloud as they come. The party managed to defeat this second wave, then runs to check on their allies.

The other group has fared less well, warning the party of a creature that emerged from the acid river running into one of the buildings, in addition to the bugs and slugs the party had seen. They decide to retreat and recover, with Hobson and Ahme still diseased from the touch of the slugs despite Kathra's best efforts. The party move towards the second storage building, but spot and attack the creature still lurking beneath the surface of the acid. It crawls forth and spews smaller copies of itself from its back which rush the party, but with numbers on their side they easily slay it.

The storage units, when checked, contain alpine gear and non-perishable foodstuffs, so the party collect some tents and some warm weather gear for their Yugs. Srash attempts to retrofit some of the gear to fit the humans, but as it was designed for dwarves and she is not an expert tailor the result is makeshift at best.

The party head into the main building, finding an entrance hall with a black and white marbelled floor. There are five patches of blood on the floor, and, suspicious, Sassani activates her magical vision. This shows her both that the patches on the floor, as well as the acid stream and a number of the floor tiles, are definitely magical. As the group proceeds across the room there is a flash of magic, and the puddles schlorp to life in the form of animate blood. As the party move to defend they discover that invisible forcefields have created a maze through the room, and that they are cut off from each other.

The party move cautiously through the invisible maze, banishing or slaying the blood monsters until the room is clear. Despite killing everything, the maze remains. Sassani reactivates her Eldrich Sight and spots that two of the trapped floor tiles are a different colour than the others. Sassani and Suna use Mage Hand to press these two floor panels together, and the magic is released. The party consider whether to head deeper into the research station, or to retreat to their allies.
