After a day or so's more travel the group arrive at a gigantic underwater lake, with the remains of a Yug camp on the shore. Igsai explains that the Yugs constructed rafts to cross the lake, which took a few days. She says there are whirlpools dotted around the centre, and an island that the Yugs stopped at to rest about halfway. The group sends Sassani to scout the lake on her broom, whilst they scavenge what they can from the Yug camp to create some rafts to transport them back.
When the rafts are complete they head out on to the water. A number of hours later they begin to come across whirlpools in the water, as Igsai had described. As they begin to navigate them, they are attacked by animated tentacles of water which seem to be controlled by amoeba-like creatures that move within the arms. They begin to drag the rafts into the water, but Sassani banishes them back to the Elemental Plane of Water from where they sprang. With this threat removed, Kathra calls upon her god to smooth their path through the whirlpools, giving them a straight passage towards the island.
When they land they are confronted by a group of Yuhs who had been left behind. After some initial argument, the group's friendly Yugs convince the island-dwellers that the group are friendly. The leader of these Yugs, Bog, tells the group they were left to investigate a deep well in the centre of the island, with something shiny visible at the bottom. The Yugs have constructed a number of platforms and walkways leading down into the hole, but construction has halted as they ran short on materials and a number of Yugs had fallen to their deaths.
The group strikes a deal with Bog to investigate the well on his behalf, with the proviso they must take one of Bog's Yugs, Kygz, with them. They rest up, then head down into the hole.
Upon landing they find, as well as the corpses of fallen Yugs, some bloated corpses of short, squat humanoids. As they begin to venture out of the first chamber these corpses animate and lurch towards them, as other collections of bones and the Yugs' remains whip together into rotating towers of body parts. They group fights the assault off, then begins tentatively exploring the structure. They are in the remains of some sort of underwater palace. They find more bloated corpses as they explore, and are careful to strike them down before they have a chance to animate and come after them. With their process sorted, they proceed deeper…
